(Note: a space is required between the first word, in this case howard, and the '-' command. There should be no space between the '-' and the excluded word, in this case england.)
Refine Search
The refine search function allows you to home in on the pictures you are looking for. For example, if you want to find pictures that fits the criteria "crows fans invade 1997 afl grand final", use the Fast Search form to enter the first set of words, say +afl +grand +final, and click on the Search button. If the search result returns more pictures than you want, click on the word 'Refine Search' alongside any picture. This brings up the Refine Search form: type in your next likely criteria, say crows. Follow the same steps until you find the exact matches.
Alternatively, you can type +afl +grand +final +crows in the Fast Search form for the same result.

Help on AdvancedSearch commands
Search Text:
Advanced Search accepts "phrases" separated by "operators" for the search text.

"Phrases" means that every word you type is considered to be next to each other.

e.g. John Howard in Basic Search will return every documents with John or Howard whereas Advanced Search will only return documents with John Howard appearing together.

The basic "boolean operators" in Advanced Search are: AND, OR, NOT.

Brackets can be used to group part of the search text together. e.g. casino AND (melbourne OR sydney) will bring up documents about casinos in Sydney or Melbourne.

Range Fields:
The Date field has a From and To entry.
You do not need to use both ends of a range, but only the one you see fit.

e.g. You can specify only the From entry of the Date field to call up documents on or after that date.

Note that the dates are in Australian format, e.g. 30/9/1998.
